According to , the couple had previously delayed the wedding dinner once because of COVID-19 and had rescheduled for March 10th. Since the outbreak doesn’t seem to be receding soon, so they decided to proceed with it in a different way.

The wedding banquet started with the guests' arrival, the entrance of newlyweds, as well as speeches and ceremonies. Only drinks were served but the food like vegetables, roasted pig, noodles, seafood, and desserts was packed into 150 takeaway bags for the guests. To reduce the risk of getting COVID-19, the guests were sent home with their takeaway bags of food because the couple did not want the guests to remove their masks to eat at the event.

Photos of the food in plastic takeaway boxes went viral on social media. Netizens had different opinions. Some of them commented that this looked very cheap as a meal from the Kopitiam and it didn’t justify the amount of angpau.

Some of them said that this was not environmentally-friendly because many single-use plastics were used. However, some stated that this was a good strategy because the guests could stay safe and the restaurant did not need to lose any business.
